Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration

A world of culture, food, and fun - right in your neighbourhood! Join us for the Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration on Saturday, September 20 from 11 AM – 2 PM at Millhurst Community League Hall. This Community League Day, celebrate the diversity of our neighbourhood with an afternoon full of colour, flavour, and learning!


Enjoy live cultural performances, henna, delicious food (limited samples; first-come-first-serve basis), and interactive stations where you can explore traditions from around the world. Each cultural station offers hands-on activities and educational experiences: a chance for children and adults to learn about different cultures, histories, and perspectives.
This free, family-friendly event is the perfect way to connect with neighbours, experience new cultures, and make lasting memories together.

African & Caribbean

African & Caribbean Station

The Council of Canadians of African and Caribbean Heritage (CCACH) are a nonprofit focused on enhancing the social, economic and educational life of Black communities within Canada. They provide affordable tutoring during the school year and host AfroQuiz, an annual Black History Month game show for students to compete and win prizes! CCACH provides services to all members of the community regardless of national or ethnic origin. At this year’s celebration, CCACH will be the host of the African and Caribbean Station.

Tajas Tunes

Megan and Shawn Taja, siblings aged 16 and 14, are the young musicians behind The Tajas' Tunes, born in Beijing, China, to parents originally from Cameroon, and now living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They began their musical journey in a local music school, with Megan excelling in piano and violin, earning awards like the 2022 Ellaine Dunbar Scholarship for Piano. Shawn plays both the flute and saxophone, overcoming challenges with consistent instruction by dedicating himself to self-improvement. The siblings regularly perform at their church, community events, and volunteer concerts for the elderly, using their music to uplift others. Outside of music, they enjoy playing basketball and soccer and invite supporters to follow their journey on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.

Jamaican Chefmon - Jamaican Patties

For over a decade, Jamaican Chefmon has brought the vibrant flavors of the Caribbean to Edmonton. From its beginnings in a hotel kitchen to farmers’ markets and now a full-time restaurant, the passion for authentic island cuisine has only grown stronger. At this year’s Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration, Jamaican Chefmon will be serving their chicken Jamaican patties at Millhurst's Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration

Azerbaijani Station

The main goal of Azerbaijan Cultural Society of Edmonton (AzCSE) is to preserve & promote Azerbaijani culture and heritage in Alberta and foster cultural understanding & tolerance by hosting public events, organizing cultural classes and programs throughout the year, and actively participating in major city wide events and celebrations such as the Heritage Festival, Canada Day Events, and Alberta Culture Days celebrations. Arshin Mal Alan (The Fabric Peddler)

AzCSE dance group will showcase a captivating Azerbaijani dance performance called The Arshin Mal Alan (The Fabric Peddler), a lively and stunning dance performance inspired by prominent Azerbaijani Composer, Uzeyir Hajibeyov’s famous operetta of the same name. The Arshin Mal Alan dance tells the story of a young man searching for love while disguising himself as a fabric peddler to meet potential brides. Through graceful steps and expressive gestures, dancers bring to life the humor, romance, and charm of this beloved Azerbaijani operetta. 

Caspian Kebabs - Persian and Mediterranean Cuisine 

Caspian Kebabs brings the vibrant flavors of the Caspian region to Edmonton. This family-owned restaurant serves expertly crafted kebabs, shawarma, and traditional Middle Eastern specialties, made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. At the Multicultural Neighbourhood Celebration, Caspian Kebabs will be offering delicious dishes that let you taste a piece of their heritage. Chinese Station

Edmonton KSK Canada is a non-profit Lion Dance team based in Edmonton that trains in Chinese southern style performance and competition Lion Dance. With a junior and senior group, our team welcomes all ages! Our goal is to continue to share this beautiful cultural sport with everyone! At this year’s celebration, KSK will be the host of the Chinese Station.

Indigenous Station

Chantelle Desjarlais (far right) is a proud Nêhiyaw Iskwêw (Cree Woman) from Maskwacîs, raised in Edmonton, Alberta. At just 19 years old, she has been dancing the Jingle Dress dance for over 6 years. Chantelle carries herself as a cultural teacher, Indigenous model, and strong role model in her community. Chantelle advocates passionately for BIPOC rights and representation, using her voice and presence to inspire the next generation. Through her dancing and community involvement, she uplifts traditional teachings and honours the healing power of the Jingle Dress, while also creating space for Indigenous youth to embrace their identities with pride.


Keenan Wells (far left) has been dancing The Men's Northern Traditional style for over 10 years and is currently completing a combined Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies and Bachelor of Education majoring in Social Studies. As a proud member of the Woodland Cree First Nation in Treaty 8 territory, Keenan is recognized as a cultural knowledge keeper who shares the teachings, protocols, and stories connected to Pow Wow dancing. His work emphasizes the importance of cultural pride, traditional practice, and youth mentorship. Keenan's passion lies in ensuring that Indigenous knowledge continues to be lived, celebrated, and passed on to future generations.


Together, Chantelle and Keenan co-founded Nîmîhitowin by CK, an Indigenous-led Pow Wow dance group initiative. Nîmîhitowin being the Cree word for the act of dancing reflecting their vision of cultural resurgence and celebration through movement, story, and song. Their group has travelled across Alberta, sharing both their unique dance styles and cultural teachings through storytelling, workshops, and performances. By leading with traditional knowledge, they strive to strengthen community connections, honour their ancestors, and empower youth to walk proudly in their identities.
