We are seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Youth Recreation Program Coordinator, focusing on creating engaging programs for youth within our community league over the summer.
This exciting opportunity is funded by Canada Summer Jobs, offering a paid summer position involving hands-on interaction with youth, tailored program development, and coordination of activities centered around community gardening and basketball.
For 8 weeks based on a 30 hr work week. The hourly rate is $20.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development:
Design and implement a variety of recreational activities that cater to the interests and needs of youth in the community, with a particular focus on basketball and gardening.
Organize and oversee basketball tournaments for youth within the community, including scheduling games, recruiting teams, and coordinating referees.
Develop tournament formats and rules that encourage sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill development among participants.
Community Gardening:
Facilitate hands-on gardening activities for youth, including planting, maintaining and harvesting produce in the community garden.
Provide education on gardening techniques, environmental stewardship, and healthy eating habits to empower youth to become active participants in sustainable practices.
Youth Engagement:
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes positive youth development and fosters meaningful connections with peers and mentors.
Encourage active participation and leadership opportunities within program activities, empowering youth to take ownership of their learning and growth.
Plan and execute additional events of your choice such as movie or musical entertainment.
Program Evaluation:
Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, collecting feedback from participants and stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of activities and make continuous improvements.
Maintain accurate records of program attendance, participant feedback, and programmatic achievements to inform future planning and reporting.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in youth development, recreation management, or related field preferred.
Previous experience working with youth in a recreational or educational setting, with a demonstrated ability to engage and inspire young people.
Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, tournament organization, and basic gardening practices preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and community members.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
Passion for youth empowerment, community engagement, and promoting healthy lifestyles through recreational activities.
